Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a highly effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces.

We offer 2 types of tooth whitening at Thanet House Dental Care. ‘Take Home’ custom made whitening kits & ‘Beam in Office’ whitening treatments using the latest LED light technology.

Whichever type you choose, the effects can last up to 3 years, but will vary from person to person. The effects of tooth whitening won’t last so long if you are a smoker, eat or drink products that can stain the teeth. Ask your dentist or hygienist for advice before you start treatment.

Take Home Whitening Kits

Your dentist will take a mould of your teeth and construct specially made trays which fit your mouth like a gum shield. They will then prescribe a whitening gel and teach you how to safely apply this yourself at home. The active ingredient in the gels is usually either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel of the teeth and the colour lightens.

Beam in Office Laser Whitening

This treatment is carried out by the dentist in one 60 minute appointment. Beam-in chair whitening can lighten your teeth up to 8 shades lighter in those 60 minutes! Your dentist will apply the gels to your teeth and use an LED light to expedite the whitening process. You will be given a ‘Take Home’ kit and customised trays and gels to boost your treatment at home to ensure the results last.

Always use whitening gels that have been prescribed by a dentist. Never buy these products online. Gels must always be used under the direct supervision of a fully qualified clinician. Top up kits are available to purchase but must be done so by prescription from a dentist.
