Endodontic treatment is also known as root canal treatment and it is a way of saving teeth that may be damaged by fracture, infection or tooth decay.
The procedure involves gently removing diseased pulp and infection from the root with specialist instruments and a dental microscope. The root canal is then shaped and sealed to prevent further re-infection. Once the root filling has been completed you will be advised on what restoration is recommended to protect the tooth from fracture. This will restore the tooth to its full function.
Without endodontic treatment the only other alternative is to have an infected tooth removed, leaving an unsightly gap.
